Release date: 15th Nov 2010
A reception at Buckingham Palace with Her Majesty The Queen and H.R.H The Duke of Edinburgh is a rare event. J Keith Lomas, Group CEO, and John Clamp, Group COO, attended for a second time as UltraVision CLPL was awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise - Innovation 2010.
This most prestigious award was specifically for KeraSoft®; a patented soft contact lens for Irregular Corneas and Keratoconus. UltraVision received its first Queen's Award in 2006 for UltraWave® and SAM® technologies.
An official presentation by Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Sir Samuel Whitbread KCVO JP, will take place in November at UltraVision's Head Office in Leighton Buzzard. All staff members are invited, along with guests from the optical profession and community leaders.
'To receive the Queen's Award once is a serious achievement, but twice is out of this world' said Lomas. 'We were improving people's vision but now our team is taking our technologies to new levels and dramatically changing lives for the better'.
Patients can have irregular corneas for a number of reasons including disease, trauma and corneal transplants. Standard contact lenses or spectacles do not successfully address such complexities so patients can have considerably reduced vision.
KeraSoft® lenses are a patented combination of the latest technologies in soft and silicone hydrogel materials using geometries from complex mathematics to offer comfortable wear and excellent vision for all waking hours.
